Dr. Sara Hellmüller was the lead researcher on an SNSF Division 1 project that analyzed the role of norms in international mediation. The research project asked to what extent mediators are norm entrepreneurs. It addressed the questions of what norms belong to the normative frameworks of mediation processes; whether mediators promote and imitate norms and how; and which norms have been internalized in mediation processes. Methodologically, the project was based on a combination of case studies (Myanmar, South Sudan, Syria) and process-tracing.
